Our First Christmas 2019

Duet or Solo

Duration 3:00

Text by Deborah Lapp

Notes

This was the first Christmas Card song my wife and I wrote together. In 2019 our daughter and niece both got married, so we wanted to celebrate both of them. It’s a light, jazzy tune conceived as a duet, but could easily be done as a solo, or I would be glad to expand it to SATB. Just ask.

Text

CHORUS
So, it’s our first Christmas as Mister and Missus.
Deck the halls of our own, in our hip holiday home.

Last week in bad weather we made cookies together
And we sent Christmas cards off between reruns of Rudolph.

Our friends we’ll be hosting; and our loved ones we’re toasting
We will wear festive togs and tie bows on the dogs.

(Chorus)

Wrapped, practical, packages with sentimental messages
Circle a tabletop tree.
Tea towels in the kitchen red and green festive wishin’.
Nutmeg and spice in our tea.

(Chorus)

They’ll come alone or in couples and laugh as one with the bubbles
We’ll call an Uber for Carlos and Bree!

When the guests have all departed, the dishwasher started
We’ll smile, con-tent; no, elated at the Christ-mas-time love we’ve created
